Mariell Guzman Seaport, Manhattan, NY, 2025

Artist statement: “You Are Not Alone” is deeply meaningful to me, as I’m currently healing my inner child. This mural is a love letter to the little girl who immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico at 9 years old and felt the weight of loneliness, leaving behind family, friends, and the only culture she knew. Growing up between two worlds, I never fully fit in, and that’s when my depression and anxiety began.

Art became my only safe space, though even there I often felt alone. It wasn’t until I reconnected with my spirituality that I began to feel truly held by my ancestors, by something greater. This mural is about that moment: my inner child, no longer alone, surrounded by her ancestors, reminded that “No estás solita ” (You are not alone)
