Almonte Studio Seaport, Manhattan, NY, 2025
Artist statement: As an artist, I often work alone, which made being part of the You’re Not Alone Mural Festival especially meaningful. Painting alongside so many talented artists and witnessing their creative processes was a powerful reminder of the community we share. The festival’s message—that you’re not alone—deeply resonated with me. When I’m overwhelmed, I take walks to clear my mind. Hearing birds or spotting flowers growing unexpectedly always reminds me that I’m part of a larger, living world—and that brings me comfort. For my mural, I wanted to recreate that feeling. I imagined a surreal garden where the plants are larger than life, gently watching over you. It’s a visual reminder that even when we feel alone, we’re surrounded by signs of life, connection, and quiet comfort.
Talisa Almonte is an Afro-Dominican artist, illustrator, and muralist based in Queens, NY. After seven years in the fashion industry—and the profound loss of her father—she founded Almonte Studio to honor his legacy through creativity.
